AI – the two most dreaded letters for almost every working professional in the field of technology. No matter how much we deny it, AI is here to stay. The power of artificial intelligence is simply tremendous. Now, with engineers exploiting it to its fullest, almost no field is going to be an exception. It is going to penetrate and change the working systems, right from the base to the apex, and that includes graphic design as well.

Graphic designing is a derived form of vivid art that has evolved from ancient caves, with the assistance of modernization to simplistic paper, to now a virtual, responsive screen, and more. AI is more of a smart computer program, originally born to solve unfeasible real-world problems, but it is now invading other occupations to prove its capabilities. So, let’s dive into it and see exactly how AI affects the visual art field of graphic design.

The need for reducing manual work, to lessen the burden of generating multiple designs for different purposes, and a skewed approach to the same problem – these are the primary reasons which support the cause of using artificial intelligence-integrated tools for graphic design.   2. AutoDraw– AutoDraw is a very basic online AI-based drawing tool, which was birthed in Google’s Creative Lab. It is free of cost to use but lacks heavy editing features. It also does not provide any sort of medium for collaboration between different users.
  3. Deep Art Effects– It is one of the most popular AI-based image processing tools. It provides rich features like filter inclusion, art style rendering, and generative adversarial network (through ML). Its cost ranges from approximately $10 to $129. It is supported by Samsung, Huawei, & Globus as well.

AI-integrated Designs & their vast potential

Numerous designing software are beginning to integrate AI into their systems for a multitude of reasons. For example, AI is being used to create and adjoin missing parts of an image. It is also computing and applying automatic picture enhancement features such as sharpness, exposure, brightness, contrast, etc. Many multinational companies such as Meta’s Facebook and Instagram, Adobe, Apple, etc. are already embracing this change in their products. Netflix is another example, which is using AI to design its graphic visualizations, including posters, infographics, vector art, etc. in its ventures.

Different industries are leaning towards self-produced merch, from raw materials to finished products. AI is eating up much of the middle tedious work of the same, making it much easier than before. For instance, Adobe has released its own clever AI and machine learning-incorporated picture analysis software Adobe Sensei. It is to be a part of the Adobe platform, including Adobe Experience Cloud, & Adobe Creative Cloud. This means that the creative requirements needed will be much less than the technical requirements of the design. Creativity will incessantly suffer in the upcoming future, since providing a base outline will be sufficient for creating an elegant design. Logo designing and illustrations will be made using AI on providing it the input of certain elements and data.

An article, published by the Faculty of Art and Design of the Department of Graphics, Doğuş University, Turkey, in 2019, studied the use of AI in the field of graphic design. It studied the rise of a few AI-powered software such as Logojoy (an AI-powered logo maker), Adobe Sensei (an AI-powered photo editor), and Designscape (an AI-powered layout designer), etc.

The conclusion quoted “what artificial intelligence does not have is creative awareness, which may be a temporary problem. These may be overcome in time with methods like creative learning or adapting neural networks of the human brain to artificial intelligence”.

Artificial intelligence today has the potential to create full marketing campaigns in under 5 minutes. AI will not only affect 2D art but will also take over 3D art. As a matter of fact, attempts have been made to train an AI model to create human life-like three-dimensional projections. Therefore, it is not very tough to predict the extent to which AI can grow.
